In enger Kooperation zwischen dem Deutschen Wetterdienst in Offenbach und unserer Abteilung f\u00fcr Angewandte Mathematik in Freiburg wird zun\u00e4chst ein neues Verfahren anhand von idealisierten meteorologischen Testproblemen entwickelt und validiert und soll dann auf realistische Wettervorhersagedaten angewendet werden. Insbesondere wird die Orografie, die Wolkenphysik und der Multiskalencharakter des Problems sowie transparente Randbedingungen auf den k\u00fcnstlichen R\u00e4ndern des Rechengebietes ber\u00fccksichtigt (siehe Drittmittelprojekt MetStr\u00f6m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fluid-Struktur-Wechselwirkung:<\/strong> Die Wechselwirkung zwischen Str\u00f6mung und elastischer Struktur ist in vielen technischen und medizinischen Problemen von Bedeutung. In gemeinsamen Arbeiten mit O. Goncharova und E. B\u00e4nsch ist dies f\u00fcr die Wechselwirkung zwischen einer Fl\u00fcssigkeit in 3D und einer elastischen Struktur, bestehend aus einer 2D-Mannigfaltigkeit, numerisch bearbeitet worden. Der Fall von Nicht-Newtonschen Fl\u00fcssigkeiten ist Gegenstand eines gemeinsamen Teilprojekts mit M. R\u016f\u017ei\u010dka im SFB TR 71 (siehe Drittmittelprojekt DFG-SFB Transregio 71 Projekt: C.2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/aam.uni-freiburg.de\/emeriti\/agkr\/index.html#250-02\"><\/a>Mehrphasenstr\u00f6mungen mit Phasen\u00fcbergang:<\/strong> Die mathematische Modellierung von Phasen\u00fcberg\u00e4ngen in einer Str\u00f6mung ist ein aktuelles Forschungsgebiet mit vielen offenen Fragen. Insbesondere die thermodynamisch korrekte Formulierung der Phasen\u00fcberg\u00e4nge an der Phasengrenze ist eine besondere Herausforderung. Das gleiche gilt f\u00fcr die Entwicklung der zugeh\u00f6rigen numerischen Algorithmen und die numerische Simulation. Als Sprecher einer deutsch-franz\u00f6sischen Forschergruppe und durch die Betreuung von Doktoranden sowie durch eigene Untersuchungen arbeite ich auf diesem Gebiet (siehe Drittmittelprojekt DFG Phasefield models).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Paralleles Rechnen auf H\u00f6chstleistungsrechnern:<\/strong> Meine Arbeitsgruppe hat einen erheblichen Anteil an der Entwicklung der Software-Umgebung DUNE, welche die effektive Programmierung von Algorithmen zur L\u00f6sung von partiellen Differentialgleichungen auf Parallelrechnern mit dynamischer Adaption und dynamischer Lastverteilung erlaubt. Das Programmpaket DUNE wird gemeinsam mit Arbeitsgruppen aus Berlin, M\u00fcnster und Heidelberg entwickelt. Es ist frei verf\u00fcgbar und wird inzwischen von vielen Gruppen in Deutschland und weltweit verwendet. Regelm\u00e4\u00dfig finden hierzu Einf\u00fchrungskurse und Workshops statt. Ich selbst bin Stellvertretender Vorsitzender des Lenkungsausschusses am H\u00f6chstleistungsrechenzentrum in Stuttgart (HLRS) und Mitglied der Rechenzeitkommission des John von Neumann-Instituts f\u00fcr Computing am Forschungszentrum in J\u00fclich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/aam.uni-freiburg.de\/emeriti\/agkr\/index.html#250-03\"><\/a>Numerik f\u00fcr konvektionsdominante partielle Differentialgleichungen:<\/strong> Eine besondere Herausforderung ist nach wie vor die effektive Berechnung von Str\u00f6mungen, bei denen die Konvektion gegen\u00fcber der Viskosit\u00e4t und Diffusion dominant ist. Nur mit Hilfe einer besonderen Stabilisierungstechnik k\u00f6nnen solche Probleme mit der n\u00f6tigen Zuverl\u00e4ssigkeit und Effizienz berechnet werden. F\u00fcr reine Erhaltungsgleichungen in mehreren Raumdimensionen konnten wir die Konvergenz von Finite-Volumen-Verfahren auf unstrukturierten Gittern und a posteriori Fehlerabsch\u00e4tzungen zeigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Erhaltungsgleichungen auf Fl\u00e4chen:<\/strong> Viele Prozesse in Natur und Technik beinhalten Transportprozesse auf Fl\u00e4chen, oft auch auf bewegten Fl\u00e4chen, z. B. \u00d6l auf bewegter Wasseroberfl\u00e4che, Tsunamis, Transportprozesse auf biologischen Zellmembranen. In j\u00fcngsten Arbeiten (gemeinsam mit Dziuk im SFB TR 71, noch unver\u00f6ffentlicht) konnten wir die Existenz von L\u00f6sungen von Erhaltungsgleichungen auf bewegten Fl\u00e4chen beweisen (siehe Drittmittelprojekt DFG-SFB Transregio 71 Projekt: C.1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Well-balanced Verfahren:<\/strong> Nachdem die Theorie und Numerik f\u00fcr Erhaltungsgleichungen mit homogener rechter Seite inzwischen gut verstanden ist, erfordert die Numerik bei inhomogenen Problemen eine besondere Diskretisierung. Insbesondere m\u00fcssen die Algorithmen in der Lage sein, L\u00f6sungen zu station\u00e4ren Anfangsdaten auch stabil rechnen zu k\u00f6nnen. Dies kann durch sogenannte well-balanced Verfahren erreicht werden (siehe Arbeiten mit M. D. Thanh).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/aam.uni-freiburg.de\/emeriti\/agkr\/index.html#290\"><\/a>Komplexit\u00e4tsreduktion:<\/strong> Viele Probleme k\u00f6nnen erst nach Reduktion ihrer Komplexit\u00e4t effizient berechnet werden. Verschiedene Techniken wie \u201dreduced basis methods\u201d und \u201dslow manifolds\u201d f\u00fchren zu beeindruckenden Erfolgen. Diese Fragen werden in den Arbeiten mit Jung und Haasdonk bzw. in dem Projekt der Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg-Stiftung gemeinsam mit D. Lebiedz bearbeitet (siehe Drittmittelprojekt Landesstiftung Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Konvergenz f\u00fcr numerische Verfahren:<\/strong> In Zusammenarbeit mit meiner Humboldt-Stipendiatin Yan Xu entwickeln und untersuchen wir numerische Verfahren f\u00fcr die Degasperis-Procesi-Gleichung in 1D. Hier konnten wir inzwischen die Konvergenz eines stabilisierten Verfahrens in Erhaltungsform zeigen. Wir arbeiten zur Zeit an dem Beweis einer Fehlerabsch\u00e4tzung. Diese Gleichung steht in engem Zusammenhang mit der Korteweg-DeVries- und der Camassa-Holm-Gleichung. Unterschiedliche Auswahl von Parametern liefern jeweils die oben genannten Gleichungstypen. Die Camassa-Holm-Gleichung wiederum modelliert das Brechen von Wellen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Effektive Hamiltonian:<\/strong> Bei der Homogenisierung von reaktiven Str\u00f6mungen mit Flammenfronten spielt die effektive Hamiltonian-Funktion eine besondere Rolle. Sie l\u00e4\u00dft sich mit Hilfe einer Hamilton- Jacobi-Gleichung berechnen. In der Literatur gibt es verschiedene Methoden zur Berechnung der effektiven Hamiltonian-Funktion. In diesem Projekt (gemeinsam mit M. Nolte) geht es um neue effiziente Algorithmen zur Berechnung der effektiven Hamiltonian-Funktion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shallow Water:<\/strong> In einem gemeinsamen BMBF-Projekt mit Kollegen aus M\u00fcnster, Berlin und einem Ingenieurb\u00fcro untersuchen wir die Interaktion zwischen Oberfl\u00e4chenwasser und Sr\u00f6mungen durch por\u00f6se Medien. Dies wird durch die Kopplung der Flachwassergleichung mit der Richards-Gleichung modelliert.
