The Laboratory for Optical Systems welcomes applications for a

PhD position: Miniaturization of optically-pumped alkali magnetometers
Part-time position (75 %), Start-date: 01.09.2020

The topic of the doctoral thesis is the development of particularly compact, highly integrated sensors using methods of microsystems technology (MST). The work will focus on the design and implementation of optical, mechanical and electrical components of the OPM, with the aim of further miniaturization and improvement of detection sensitivity.

The new position is located at the Chair of Optical Systems at IMTEK . It is planned that the major part of the work will be carried out at the University of Colorado Boulder and in close cooperation with the Nonlinear Optics and Quantum Sensor Technology group at Fraunhofer IPM.

We are looking for a candidate with an above-average Master's degree in physics, photonics, microsystems technology or similar with interest in a challenging research topic and the ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary environment of physicists and engineers. Very good English and German language skills are required as well as the willingness to conduct longer research occupations at the University of Colorado Boulder.

The position is limited to 31.08.2023. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13.
