Annemarie Uihlein completed her Master of Education in Latin and History at the University of Freiburg in February 2023. In December 2024, she also completed an advanced master’s degree in political science in Freiburg. Since 2025, she has been working on her dissertation on Roman foreign policy on the Danube (1st–4th century AD), for which she received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung.
Research
In her dissertation, Annemarie Uihlein uses a case-oriented comparative study to examine whether the characteristics of an imperialistic political style can be found in the concrete formulation of Roman foreign policy in selected conflicts. The case studies are the Dacian Wars of Domitian and Trajan, the Marcomannic Wars of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus, and the Danube Wars of Constantine and Constantius II. This long-term perspective on the Danube front is intended to highlight and explain the variance, patterns and developmental trends in imperialism during the imperial period.
