Girls’ Day 2026 at IMBIT

No Fear of Tech — Just Fun

As part of Girls’ Day 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with the BrainLinks-BrainTools Centre, we ran two workshops at IMBIT, both of which were fully booked within no time.

In the workshop “Human-Machine Interface”, supervised by a member of staff from the Biomedical Microtechnology Research Group, the schoolgirls were able to experience the future of intelligent prostheses and control a small robotic arm using their own muscle signals – without a joystick!
In the workshop “Robots in a Team: How Learning Machines Play Football!”, the pupils gained an insight into the RoboCup and the RoboCup Small Size League. Lisa Graf, from the Neurorobotics Research Group, showed the pupils her players in action! The focus was on a clear introduction to reinforcement learning, as well as a presentation of our robots, the playing field and the vision system. Using a simple example, it was demonstrated how machines learn through trial and error and gradually improve their behaviour. The workshop offered the participants a practical and accessible introduction to the world of AI and robotics.

We would like to warmly thank the members of the groups of Prof. Stieglitz and Prof. Bödecker for taking the time to present their research to the pupils in such a clear and hands-on way.

The event with even more interesting workshops and insights was mainliny organized by the faculty of engineering. You are welcome to visit the website of the faculty https://news.vm.uni-freiburg.de/de/newsarchiv/girls2019-day-2026 to stay udated and get ready to register …..

Hope to see you next year @our campus!
