BrAInWorlds: The World in our Heads

How do we perceive the world around us? Why can we find our way in a foreign city? And how do we behave appropriately in social settings like a restaurant? The answers lie in our internal world models—mental representations based on our experiences, observations and knowledge. These models help us make predictions, fill in missing information and navigate our environment effectively. But how are these internal models formed and changed? What role do they play in mental illnesses like depression or psychosis? And how does artificial intelligence perceive the world?

GenAI & Me : Creative Computing and Emancipatory AI

Since 2019, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the US state of Connecticut have jointly supported the Human Rights Research Consortium (HRRC)—a transatlantic initiative dedicated to interdisciplinary research on human rights. One of its key outreach projects is “GenAI & Me: Creative Computing and Empowering AI,” developed by NEXUS Experiments and Wonderful Idea Co.

Who has more health data about you – your GP or your smartphone? How many people do you know who could identify you just from your medication list? Does your fitness tracker know more about your health than you do? The collection of personalized health-related data and its analysis by self-learning artificial intelligence systems is seen by some as an inevitable path to the future. Others fear the big data octopuses that will soon be juggling with algorithms to determine our social status.
