Data Steward Meeting 23-7-2025

The fourth meeting in the “Data Stewardship Meeting” series took place on July 23, 2025, at Wehrtmannstr. 4.

Johannes L. Hörmann reported on his work as a data steward in the Cluster of Excellence Living, Adaptive and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems (livMatS). He presented the specific data stewardship tasks, from the development of certain data management tools and a project-specific policy to their implementation and the challenges of dealing directly with other project members. Subsequent questions and discussion focused on the position and tasks of a data steward within a scientific project.
In the second half of the meeting, the topic of data storage was discussed, which should be thought of as a process throughout the entire data life cycle, with the appropriate storage options to be selected for each phase. The CDF is currently trying to design the selection process for the storage options available at the University of Freiburg using a questionnaire and making it available on its own homepage. The experiences and practical tips of all data stewards at the University of Freiburg are welcome.
