KW verfolgt aber auch das weitergehende Ziel, Kognition auch bei anderen Organismen und bei technischen Systemen (\u201eK\u00fcnstliche Intelligenz\u201c) zu beschreiben und zu erkl\u00e4ren. Durch die Grundannahme, da\u00df kognitive Prozesse als Berechnungsvorg\u00e4nge zu betrachten sind, lassen sich biologische und k\u00fcnstliche Systeme \u00fcbergreifend untersuchen. Kognitive Prozesse sind z. B. Wichtige Fragestellungen sind, wie der Begriff Geschlecht konstruiert wird, welche Auswirkungen Geschlecht auf soziale Strukturen und Machtverh\u00e4ltnisse hat und in welchen gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Bereichen Geschlecht eine Rolle spielt. Geschlecht wird dabei nicht biologisch verstanden, sondern als sozio-kulturelle Kategorie (\u201egender\u201c). Die heutigen Gender Studies beziehen in einem sogenannten intersektionalen Ansatz die \u00dcberschneidung mit anderen sozialen Kategorien mit ein, wie z.B. Ethnizit\u00e4t oder Alter. Forschungsschwerpunkte der Abteilung Kognitionswissenschaft und Gender Studies sind die Verwendung von gender-inklusiver Sprache sowie die Verankerung von psychologischen
