The Centre for Security and Society (CSS) is a central institution of the University of Freiburg dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the field of civil security. Since its establishment in 2010, it has become a leading research institution in Germany in this field. At CSS, questions of civil security are examined from sociological, ethical, legal, as well as engineering and (information) technological perspectives.

Projects
At the Centre for Security and Society, research projects funded by the EU, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and other sponsors are conducted. A transdisciplinary research process is central to these projects.
