Finnegan Frederick-Kringel is a research associate and instructor in Educational Psychology at the University of Freiburg. His interests center on teaching and learning, instructional design, self-regulated learning, and the application of psychological research to educational practice.

A strong believer in lifelong and self-directed learning, he developed many of his skills through independent exploration from an early age, ranging from teaching himself to read and calculate as a child to mastering software and complex psychological theories without formal instruction. Throughout his academic career, he has enjoyed making complex ideas accessible to others, whether through university teaching, supervising empirical research projects and bachelor’s theses, creating instructional videos, or providing statistics tutoring to fellow students.

His research interests encompass learning and instruction, large language models in education, learning difficulties, particularly dyscalculia, and the role of humor in educational contexts—a topic he explored in his master’s thesis. He is exceedingly interested in how evidence-based teaching can foster both effective learning and positive learning experiences.

Beyond research and teaching, he values meaningful interpersonal interactions and enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds. An enthusiastic film lover with a special appreciation for cinema from around the world, he sees films as a unique way of understanding human behavior, psychological processes, different perspectives, and cultural diversity. A linguistically versatile and humorously witty communicator, he is natively fluent in English and German, has a solid command of Spanish, and basic knowledge of French.
