PhD project: “National History(ies) in the Service of the International. Historical Interpretations and Visions of the Future of German-Austrian Social Democracy and Spanish Socialism (1890–1914)”
In my PhD thesis, I explore how interpretations of history shaped the socialist labour movement’s approach to nationality and empire. By analysing sources surrounding festivities, anniversaries and may day celebrations, I show how the Spanish Socialist Worker’s Pary and the Austrian Social Democratic Worker’s Party used the politics of history to adjust and justify their attitude towards national representation and imperial rule. The thesis with the title “Nationalgeschichte(n) im Dienst der Internationale. Geschichtsdeutungen und Zukunftsentwürfe der deutschösterreichischen Sozialdemokratie und des spanischen Sozialismus (1890–1914)” is currently under assessment.
