How do people shape and organise their lives in different contexts and in different places around the world? What role does religion play in Namibia, for example? What significance do new media have in African societies? How do people in Indonesia shape their everyday lives? What similarities and differences exist between different cultural areas? What aspects influence different ways of life and cultural practices? What does ‘culture’ mean?

The subject of social and cultural anthropology will be of interest to you if you would like to explore these and other questions and are keen to engage intensively with the global diversity of human languages, cultures and coexistence in history and the present day. Social and cultural anthropology is a descriptive and comparative cultural and social science. During your studies, you will acquire a broad knowledge of the various social, political, economic and religious forms in which people organise their coexistence.
