The Role of the University (and Universities in General) in Sustainable Transformation

Scientists, representatives of the student body and the City of Freiburg hold discussion on 27 July, 7 pm

On Wednesday, 27 July 2022 at 7 pm, under the title “Mehr als schnell mal grün”, scientists from the University of Freiburg will join representatives of the student body and the Rectorate along with representatives of the City of Freiburg to discuss the role of the university in sustainable transformation.

Promoting sustainability together on a scientific basis

How is science driving ecological and social sustainability now and in the future? How can the results of current research contribute to the economy, politics and society? How can universities fulfil their social responsibility? How can sustainability be integrated into everyday university life and education? What can student initiatives contribute? And: How can the whole range of stakeholders advance sustainable transformation together on the basis of sound scientific findings?

These and other questions will be considered by a varied panel in the University Library events room. Anke Weidlich, Professor for Control and Integration of Grids, and Michael Pregernig, Professor of Sustainable Governance, will draw on their latest research and teaching on core issues of sustainability. Daniela Kleinschmit, Professor of Forest and Environmental Policy and Vice-President for Internationalization and Sustainability, represents the Rectorate; Lina Graf from Verfasste Studierendenschaft and Lucas Zander from the Transformationsuni 2.0 activist group will take part for the students. The political perspective will come from Sophie Schwer, city councillor and a spokesperson for the Sustainability Council. The event will be chaired by Maria-Xenia Hardt.

Anyone who is interested can attend the event in person or by live stream. There is no need to register.
