THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026: Five top ten national rankings

The World University Rankings by Subject 2026 rank the University of Freiburg among the ten best universities in Germany in five subject areas. In international comparisons, it is listed among the top 100 universities in two subject areas and ranks twice in the 101-125 ranking group.
The University of Freiburg is listed in nine of the eleven subject rankings in the current World University Rankings by Subject 2026 published by the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE). It is ranked among the ten best German universities five times and among the top 100 worldwide twice. It is also listed twice in the 101-125 ranking group.
In the subjects of Law (ranked 78th) and Life Sciences (ranked 82nd), the University of Freiburg is among the top 100 universities worldwide in these subjects. Nationally, it is listed in sixth and seventh place in these subjects.
The University of Freiburg also ranks sixth nationally in the subject of Medical and Health and eighth in the subject of Arts and Humanities. Both subjects are ranked internationally in the 101-125 range. The University of Freiburg achieves another top ten national ranking with ninth place in the subject of Engineering.
