Uniradio uniFM 88.4 receives permanent license

The University of Freiburg’s application for a permanent licence for the university radio station uniFM 88.4 has been approved by the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg.

The state media regulatory authority thus recognizes the special importance of training students in radio as well as other forms of journalism. The grounds for the application state: ‘uniFM 88.4 is part of the cross-media student editorial team uniCROSS at the Freiburg University Library. The goal of applying for a permanent licence is to foster media competence in all University members. Students gain practical experience in radio, TV, online journalism, and social media. … As one of three learning radio stations in Baden-Württemberg, uniFM 88.4 stands for high-quality media education and the promotion of young journalists’.
uniFM 88.4 is broadcast across Freiburg on VHF as well as worldwide via live streaming and is supported by the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation. The state media regulatory authority granted uniFM 88.4 a broadcasting licence for the first time in 2005. It has since had to be renewed several times by application.
uniFM 88.4 is part of uniCROSS, the University of Freiburg’s cross-media student editorial team at the Freiburg University Library. At uniCROSS, students can learn journalism skills and tell stories across video, audio, texts, and social media.
