University of Freiburg successful in BWGreenLabs ideas competition

The University of Freiburg achieved the best possible result in the BWGreenLab – Sustainable Energy and Resource Use in Research Laboratories in the State of Baden-Württemberg”. All three project proposals submitted will receive funding.
The University of Freiburg was successful with all three proposals submitted to the “BWGreenLab – Sustainable Energy and Resource Use in Research Laboratories in the State of Baden-Württemberg” ideas competition organized by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. The competition sought proposals for “best practices” – proposals for effective resource savings with the aim of permanently and drastically reducing the ecological footprint of research laboratories. A maximum of three proposals could be submitted per university or college.
The University of Freiburg participated with the following project proposals:
- GreenLabShare Freiburg – Digital, interactive platform for sustainable laboratory practice at the University of Freiburg, project management: Viola Kirner
- Sustainable Bio-Campus Freiburg, project management: Dr. Cornelia Klose and Dr. Henriette Rübsam
- ReProLab – Resilience-oriented process modeling for sustainable and resource-efficient laboratories, project management: Prof. Alexander Stolz
The funding will run for twelve months and amounts to a total of just under 84,000 euros. During this time, concepts for optimizing water use or waste prevention in laboratories, for example, will be developed and tested. Roll-out concepts will then be developed so that other laboratories can also benefit from the best practices. The best and most creative roll-out concepts will each receive 100,000 euros in prize money, which will be used to implement the measures. A total of 29 projects are being funded across the state.
