Freiburg Career Paths in Academia: Permanent Positions Alongside the Professorship
The University of Freiburg aims to make academic career paths sustainable and create permanent career options beyond the professorship. On 29 April 2026, the Senate adopted the ‘Framework for Permanent Positions Alongside Professorship’ in coordination with various groups from research and administration, as well as representative bodies. With these guidelines, the University of Freiburg has established a new basis for managing permanent positions, thus making an important contribution to providing attractive and reliable career prospects in the academic system.
