Extraordinary quality has been rewarded: With 28 out of 55 subjects evaluated, the University of Freiburg is well placed in the national and international \u2018Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024 (GRAS)\u2019 compiled by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. Among more than 1,900 universities from 96 countries, the University landed in the top 100 worldwide in four subjects. In two of them it is considered to be one of the top 50 institutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Particularly noteworthy are the international placements in the subjects of Ecology (ranked 32nd internationally \/ 2nd nationally), Medical Technology (ranked 46th internationally \/ 6th nationally), Dentistry and Oral Sciences (ranked 51st-75th internationally \/ 1st-3rd nationally) and Agricultural Sciences (ranked 76th-100th internationally \/ 5th-6th nationally). In a national comparison, the University of Freiburg performs very well in the subjects of Geography (ranked 2nd-5th), Biomedical Engineering (ranked 3rd-8th) and Public Health (ranked 5th-6th).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The \u2018ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024\u2019 includes 55 subjects from the natural, engineering, life, medical and social sciences, in which the University of Freiburg is represented in 28 disciplines. This year, the ranking includes more than 1,900 universities from 96 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new methodology for the ShanghaiRanking\u2019s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ranking\u2019s methodology has been adjusted compared to last year\u2019s. The ranking is now based on nine instead of five indicators in five categories. The four newly introduced indicators, all of which are grouped in the category \u2018World-Class Faculty\u2019, include: international academic awards, being named a \u2018Highly Cited Researcher\u2019, serving as an editor-in-chief of international academic journals, and holding leadership positions in major international academic organisations in an academic field. The way the indicators are weighted varies across subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance of the universities is also measured on the basis of the additional categories of \u2018World-Class Output\u2019, \u2018High Quality Research\u2019, \u2018Research Impact\u2019 and \u2018International Collaboration\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
