Research

My research focuses on the political and normative dimensions of forest and environmental governance, particularly in the context of forest and biodiversity politics. I am interested in how (environmental) norms are shaped, contested, and institutionalised across different levels of governance, with a regional focus on the European Union and its member states.

This includes the role of EU institutions, national governments, civil society actors, and courts in negotiating competing visions of nature conservation and climate action in forests. I draw on theories from (Constructivist) International Relations and European Integration scholarship to understand norm dynamics in multi-level and cross-sectoral settings. My research is situated at the intersection of political science and legal studies.

Methodologically, I apply qualitative approaches such as content analysis and discourse network analysis to examine actor constellations and norm-related debates. My broader research interests include also the role of courts and litigation in politics.
