Research
My curiosity about extreme events and how ecosystems and humans respond to different conditions has driven me to study forests from Mediterranean to boreal regions, getting to experience different natural and institutional contexts.
My research examines how disturbances, species composition, and environmental drivers shape forest ecosystem structure, resilience, and responses to global change, using quantitative approaches that integrate statistical and spatial modelling with empirical data.
Projects:
- TRANSFORMIT” Horizon Europe project: Transforming Forest Management for multiple ecosystem services and nature conservation via the Integrative approach
- “Eco2adapt” Horizon Europe project: Ecosystem-based adaptation and Change making to shape, protect and maintain the resilience of tomorrow’s forests
- UNITE Flagship programme: Forest-Human-Machine Interplay – Building Resilience, Redefining Value Networks and Enabling Meaningful Experiences
- “Precision Forestry, New tools for forestry decision making” (PrecFor)
- Measuring spatiotemporal changes in forest ecosystems Research Infrastructure(Scan4est)
- PhD project: Fires in Mediterranean forests: patterns of occurrence, transitions and impact
Teach
I consider knowledge transfer and exchange an essential part of scientific research, particularly when it comes to translating quantitative methods into accessible learning materials.
My teaching experience includes co-organising a summer school on statistical and machine-learning approaches for analyzing forest resilience, as well as annually instructing master’s students in statistics, forest modelling and spatial analysis using R.
