Curriculum Vitae<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Andreas Mehler has been Professor of Political Science and Director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) since 2015 and also heads the university’s Africa Center for Transregional Research. In the past, he has mainly focused on democratization processes in Francophone African states and power-sharing in peace agreements, most recently on the governance of restitutions from colonial contexts (cultural objects and human remains). A. Mehler has over 20 years of leadership experience in both German and European associations of African Studies (VAD, AEGIS). For 13 years he headed the GIGA Institute of African Affairs (Hamburg) with many exchange relationships with African partners. As co-editor of an African studies journal (Africa Spectrum, 2009-2018) and the Africa Yearbook (since 2005) and as project initiator and currently Chair of the Executive Council of the Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (at the University of Ghana, BMBF-funded, since 2019), he is involved in many ways in the reduction of postcolonial knowledge asymmetries. A. Mehler is a PI within the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2571 (\u201cEmpires\u201d) at the University of Freiburg and a co-applicant of the BMBF network project \u201cPost-colonial Hierarchies in Peace and Conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
