Doc Hock

Summer fest for doctoral candidates

The Doc Hock* is a lively summer gathering for all doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg! This event brings together researchers from all faculties for an afternoon and evening filled with good food, drinks, music, friendly games like table tennis, networking, and plenty of time to relax and have fun. Held at the University’s Sports Institute (Sandfangweg 4, 79102 Freiburg), you can easily reach the Doc Hock by bike or tram (stop: Emil Gött Straße). All doctoral candidates are welcome—whether you’re interested in meeting new people, joining in the games, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

To help us plan, we ask that you register in advance so we can provide enough food and drinks for everyone. Guests are encouraged to bring something for the grill (we will have separate veggie / meat grills); we provide bread, salads, condiments, and beverages.

If you’d like to play table tennis, you’re welcome to bring your own paddle, though we will have some available to use.

The Doc Hock is organized by the Graduate Centre (GraCe) and the Joint Working Committee of the Doctoral Candidates’ Councils (GAA), with support from the University’s Sports Institute.

*If you’re not familiar with the term: a “Hock” (short for “Hockete”) is a traditional outdoor gathering in Baden, featuring casual food, drinks, and music—a great way to unwind and connect with fellow doctoral candidates!
