Comparison of German and Turkish Ingerency Liability – Lecture by Büşra Hazel Ateş Sarıdağ

As part of the Visiting Researcher Programme at Freiburg Law School, Büşra Hazel Ateş Sarıdağ gave a lecture on 27 November 2025 on the topic of

‘Pre-existing Dangerous Conduct (Interference) as a Basis for Guarantor Liability: A Comparison between German and Turkish Law’.

The speaker highlighted the dogmatic foundations of interference and pointed out key similarities and differences between German and Turkish criminal law.

Appointment as judge at the Higher Regional Court

On 10 November 2025, Prof. Dr. Moritz Hennemann was appointed as a part-time judge at the Higher Regional Court.

He was assigned to the 10th Civil Division of the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe, which deals, among other things, with legal disputes concerning claims arising from media publications.

Welcome Ms Nafiye Yücedağ

Prof. Dr Moritz Hennemann and the Institute for Media and Information Law, Dept. 1, warmly welcome Dr Nafiye Yücedağ to the Freiburg Law School Visiting Researcher Programme.

Dr. Yücedağ is an Associate Professor at Istanbul University.
She received her doctorate in 2015 with a thesis on “The Buyer’s Right to Replace-ment in Case of Non-Conforming Delivery of Goods under the Turkish Code of Obligations and the CISG”.
In her habilitation thesis, she addressed fundamental questions of data protection law in the field of electronic commerce. Her thesis, published under the title “(Explicit) Consent to the Processing of Personal Data in Electronic Commerce – Pursuant to the European Union and Turkish Data Protection Rules”. As a guest researcher at our Institute and a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, she is conducting a comparative research project titled “The Monetization of Personal Data by Social Media Platforms and Online Newspapers: A Comparative Law Perspective Analyzing Turkish, EU, and U.S. Approaches.”

Launch of the Freiburg Law School Visiting Researcher Programme

We are pleased to announce the official launch of the Freiburg Law School Visiting Researcher Programme (FLSVR). The program is aimed at international researchers in the field of law and offers the opportunity to conduct research stays at the University of Freiburg.
The Institute for Media and Information Law, Department 1: Private Law, will serve as the coordinating office.

Visiting scholar at the chair: Dr Lukman Adebisi Abdulrauf

We are delighted to welcome Dr Lukman Adebisi Abdulrauf as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Media and Information Law, Department 1: Private Law.
Dr Abdulrauf will be conducting research from October 2025 to April 2026 as part of the Senior Fellow Programme at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). His work focuses on ‘Digital Constitutionalism for Sustainable AI Governance in Africa: A Critical Evaluation of Emerging Regulatory Approaches’.

First annual meeting of the Ghanaian-German Digital Dialogue

On 30 September 2025, the Ghanaian-German Digital Dialogue convened its
first annual meeting. It provided a platform for government partners and
stakeholders to review progress and shape joint strategies for digital
transformation. The event took place in a hybrid format with
participants meeting in-person in Berlin while Ghanaian representatives
joined virtually.

Participation in high-level debate

Prof. Dr. Moritz Hennemann participated in the High-Level Debate on Competition, Innovation, and Data Protection in Brussels on June 3, 2025.

The debate focused on key decisions for the coherent and practical implementation of the GDPR and the EU’s digital regulatory strategy.

Prof. Hennemann as an expert on the Committee for Digitization, Digital Infrastructure, and Media of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament

On May 9, 2025, Prof. Hennemann was invited to appear as an expert witness at a virtual meeting of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament’s Committee on Digitalization, Digital Infrastructure, and Media, where he commented on the draft amendment to the SWR State Treaty.
