What is the PhD Convent and what do we do?

All registered doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy are part of the convention. They can all actively participate in the convent.

We are committed doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy who advocate for other doctoral candidates of the faculty in faculty policy matter – for example, in the faculty council – where we contribute to important decisions and work to improve life as a PhD at our faculty.

In addition to our involvement in faculty politics, we also organize events such as the lecture series Science & Sip, in which faculty members present scientific talks in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere over a glass of wine, or we bake waffles on the Tag der Forschung.

In order to represent you and your needs as effectively as possible, we rely on your feedback! That is why we are always happy to receive input or support from you.

How are we organized?

The PhD Convention was founded in 2016. As mentioned above, in principle any doctoral candidate of the faculty can actively participate in the PhD Convent.

At the faculty level, there is the opportunity to be involved in the Faculty Council. In order to represent the doctoral candidates in the Faculty Council, one must be enrolled and obtain a simple majority in the election.

At the university level, there is the Joint Working Committee (ger.: Gemeinsamer Arbeitsausschuss, GAA) and the Senate. The GAA is an association of all convents at the university. Registered or enrolled doctoral candidates can also get involved here. To participate in university governance at the Senate level, one must be elected to the Senate in a direct election.

Science and Sip

Science & Sip is an event organized by the PhD Convent, primarily aimed at doctoral candidates of the faculty (guests are welcome!), and is intended to promote scientific exchange among doctoral candidates – especially between chemistry and pharmacy.

We aim to achieve this in a relaxed and cozy setting, featuring an engaging scientific talk accompanied by a nice glass of wine.

Ombuds Process
- In case you encounter problems with fellow PhDs, supervisors or students, you can contact the ombuts persons. They will treat everything confidentally and try to help you navigate the difficult situation
