Practical training phase for teacher education

The purpose of the practical training phase for teacher education is to extend and deepen the educational and subject-didactic knowledge, experience, and skills you gained at university and to learn to apply them at school with the aim of fulfilling the educational mandate at a Gymnasium or at vocational schools in a responsible manner.

At a glance

The practical training phase for teacher education (Vorbereitungsdienst – VD) is the second stage of training after studies on the path to the teaching profession. For Baden-Württemberg, the following applies:

Duration: 18 months (or 30 months if completed part-time)      
Start: January                   
Prerequisite: Completion of a master of education programme (or equivalent)
Application period: 15 March–15 June of the previous year
