Welcome to the home page of the Laboratory for Soft Machines, where we pioneer the creation of squishy robots and machines!

Our research focuses on designing and manufacturing robot, machines and devices that autonomously interact with their environment safely, efficiently, and agilely at various scales thanks to their physical embodiement.

This physical intelligence is implemented through multifunctional materials and structures with distributed actuation, sensing, control, and energy.

We are part of the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) and the the FIT – Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies.
