We have two postdoc positions available to work on the ERC-funded project “Intelligent Cancer Therapy with Synthetic Biology Methods (InCanTeSiMo)”. The fiive-year project will start in June 2021.
The goal of the project is to develop a novel, less invasive and more effective cancer therapy combining synthetic circuits, optogenetics and nanoparticles as delivery vehicles. Details about the project will be given to the applicants during the interview. The project is divided into several independent – yet interconnected – subprojects, which will involve a multitude of techniques, including cloning, high-throughput screens, protein engineering, fluorescence microscopy, directed evolution, mammalian cell culture and experiments in mice. The students and postdocs working on this project shall form a harmonious team, where collaboration and exchange at the intellectual and practical levels will be key for the realization of the final goal. The project is highly interdisciplinary requiring knowledge in diverse fields such as microbiology, immunology, engineering and synthetic biology.
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and team-oriented candidates, who are holding a doctoral degree in molecular biology/bioengineering/biotechnology/synthetic biology and who are eager to learn new methods, passionate about science, convinced of the power of synthetic biology and proficient in spoken and written English (knowledge of German is explicitly not required for these positions). We explicitly look for those with prior experience with cloning of large libraries, high-throughput screens (better if in yeast) and writing of scientific papers as demonstrated by at least one first-author publication and peer-reviewed journal. Candidates should be prepared to attend the FELASA course to learn how to plan and perform ethical animal experiments.
