The Chair of Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology is seeking a highly motivated andenthusiastic scientist to coordinate the overall research on complex food networks along anexperimental tree diversity gradient in the new Research Unit MultiTroph of the German ScienceFoundation (DFG) with the title “Multi-trophic interactions in a forest biodiversity experiment inChina”. The Research Unit MultiTroph is part of the Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning China (BEFChina)research platform. The platform was established in 2008 by Chinese, German and Swissresearchers, https://bef-china.com.

The candidate will be hired at the University of Freiburg but partly working in China to support researchof the experimental forest sites.

The candidate will support fieldwork, organize workshops and help with the reporting andcommunication within the project. The candidate will also support the finances for the part of theUniversity of Freiburg and coordinate the outreach activities and support managing the webpage andsocial media. The candidate will also have the opportunity to organize own research in collaborationwith students.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent capacity in teamwork. Applicants must hold a PhD inecology, biology or related disciplines. You should have strong skills and knowledge of ecologicalstatistics (using R) and experimental design, good writing and communication skills. You should be ableto work independently with high self-motivation and with interest to work inan inter-disciplinary projects. Fluency in written and spoken English and a high motivation to learn thebasics of German and Chinese languages are required. Further valuable skills are taxonomic knowledgeof plants, insects or birds and methods to identify critical taxa via novel methods.
