Description
Perovskite based solar cells have seen an impressive development in recent years. A wide range of different materials are being studied for application in solar cells as well as LEDs and detectors. Physical vapour deposition of perovskite thin films is a promising route towards the fabrication of large scale perovskite semiconductor devices. Recently the possibility to use perovskites in tandem or even triple junction solar cells has attracted a lot of attention. The aim of this research project is to develop and fabricate a high-bandgap perovskite for use in triple-junction solar cells.
Starting from 1st of June 2023 or as soon as possible after this date, the Technical Faculty at the University of Freiburg (Germany) opens a new position for a student to do research towards a Phd on the deposition and characterisation of high-bandgap perovskite thin-films for solar cells.
Potential candidates should hold a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material science, Electric Engineering (or related fields).
Your task
You will fabricate and study metal halide perovskite thin films for use in solar cells. The focus will be on the development of high-bandgap perovskite materials for use in triple junction solar cells. In close collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems you will test these perovskite materials and thin-films for their suitability for triple-junction solar cells. Research includes the deposition of perovskite absorbers, the characterisation of thin-films and solar cells, and the integration of these thin-films into triple junction solar cells. The work is happening in a highly collaborative environment and there will be many opportunities to work with experts in the field in Freiburg and with external collaborators.
Your profile
- M.Sc. Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or related fields
- Experience in semiconductor research
- Good experimental skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in diverse teams
- Experience in the field of perovskite semiconductors is desired
- Experience with optical measurement set-ups for semiconductor characterisation is desired
- Good English skills are required
What we offer
The successful candidate will join the junior research group “Optoelectronic Thin Film Materials” under the leadership of Dr. Juliane Borchert, and the “Photovoltaic Energy Conversion” group of Prof. Stefan W. Glunz. The groups are part of the Faculty of Engineering and in close cooperation with the Faculties of Chemistry and Physics of University Freiburg and thus embedded in an excellent scientific and technological environment for interdisciplinary research. Close collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) which is just 200 m away from the university labs ensures direct access to world-class facilities and fast-track to industrial application.
We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
