A University with a Rich Tradition
Generations of teachers and students have been guests at the University House Schauinsland. The university has used the peaceful and idyllic house in the Black Forest for research, instruction, and learning since 1935 – both as a quiet retreat and as a venue for scholarly discussions and conferences.
The University House Schauinsland welcomes professors, staff, and students of the university within its walls.
The house is also open to former students (alumni) of the University of Freiburg.
Rooms with a View
The University House Schauinsland, perched 1100 meters above the bustle of daily life in the city and at the university, is an ideal setting for concentrated work and relaxation. The house features three seminar rooms with modern communication and information technology for groups of 20 to 50 people.
Professors and students exhausted from a day of lectures and scholarly debate can stay for the night in rooms with one, two, or four beds or in 12, 14, or 24 bed dormitories.
The romance of the Black Forest, extolled in countless poems and songs, can be experienced to the full here at the southern tip of the Schauinsland high above the Rhine Valley.
The University House Schauinsland is a traditional wooden shingled Black Forest house which affords a breathtaking view of radiant sunsets and panoramas reaching all the way to the Alps in clear weather. The vicinity of the University House Schauinsland offers ample possibilities for hiking, jogging, skiing, or mountain biking.
The University House Schauinsland is located 1100 meters above sea level on the southwest side of Freiburg’s Schauinsland mountain within the boundries of the town Münstertal. It is only 30 minutes from Freiburg by car – just drive south through Günterstal towards Todnau.
