Economics
The Department of Economics at the University of Freiburg stands for modern, research-oriented education in the core areas of economics. It examines how individuals and firms make decisions in economically shaped life situations within the existing economic system.
The department’s research addresses central questions in economic theory, applied economic policy, financial market research, the design and effects of tax systems, as well as the study of management practices in the public and non-profit sectors and strategies for sustainable economic development.
Through the close integration of theoretical foundations and practical questions, as well as interdisciplinary exchange, the department offers a diverse and excellent environment for study and research.

Psychology
At the Department of Psychology, human experience and behavior are empirically studied across various basic and applied fields. The outpatient clinics of the department’s psychotherapy center make a significant contribution to patient care in the region and prepare future psychotherapists for their professional work.

Educational Science
The Department of Educational Science examines how people learn more effectively- at school, at university, or in professional training. The goal is to design learning environments (including digital ones) so that learning becomes easier and more effective.

Sport and Sport Science
At the Department of Sport and Sport Science at the University of Freiburg, neuroscientific, sport pedagogical, sport psychological, and training and movement science approaches are combined to comprehensively study the effects of sport and training on different target groups. Our work focuses particularly on athletes, patients, and school students. In addition, we examine issues of sport-related health promotion in older age and gender-specific aspects of sport science.
Through research-based teaching, we provide students with up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and support them in developing and practically addressing their own research questions. In this way, we combine scientific excellence with societal relevance and a clear focus on health- and performance-oriented topics.
