Studies and Teaching

The Faculty has adapted the quality objectives for teaching and learning specified for the University of Freiburg to its own circumstances. The university-wide objectives are largely consistent with the Faculty’s objectives. Accordingly, it is important to the faculty that students acquire competencies characterized by a strong academic focus, a high degree of inter- and transdisciplinarity, and strong relevance to professional fields. High-quality teaching is implemented at the faculty by systematically aligning teaching, learning, and assessment methods with the competencies to be acquired. The quality of the instruction offered is regularly reviewed through course evaluations and improved accordingly through appropriate measures. The digitization of teaching also plays an important role for the faculty. Not only are e-learning offerings implemented, but the effectiveness of these offerings is also empirically examined. In addition to teaching itself, the faculty is also committed to optimizing the quality of the study environment through a strong service orientation.

Among our strengths is the integration of new media and innovative teaching methods in the economic sciences:

• Web-Based-Training (WBT);
• EconRealPlay;
• Innovation & Sustainability Lab;
• Social Contract Laboratory (SoCoLab), Finance in Practice;

And the integration of new media and innovative teaching methods in the behavioural sciences:

• Learning strategy training using the ELIS e-module in developmental psychology;
• E-Portfolios as a form of assessment in rehabilitation psychology;
• E-portfolios in teacher education.

These are an integral part of teaching. The high quality and innovative nature of the teaching are confirmed by a series of awards from recent years (since 2014), including:
