Participation information and conditions

Here you will find all important information and conditions for participating in our courses.
All enrolled University of Freiburg students are eligible for participation. If you are a University employee, please use our internal further training and continuing education courses. If you are not affiliated with the University, you may use the programmes for guest students and the Studium Generale programme.
We award you the ECTS credits for a course if you attended it regularly (see ‘Compulsory attendance’) and successfully completed all required coursework within the specified time. It makes no difference in this case whether you attended the course on a voluntary basis or as part of a required elective module.
To participate in our courses, you must register via the course catalogue (Campus Management HISinOne). You can find out how to do this under registration and deregistration.
If you are on the waiting list for a course, you will be informed of your admission automatically on HISinOne if you subsequently receive a place. Please check your study planner regularly.
If you are on the waiting list and have a keen interest in attending the course, please come to the first session punctually and see whether you can receive a place. If there is a free place in the course, you may then have it if you are next up on the waiting list. You can view your current position on the waiting list on HISinOne by selecting ‘My course and examination registrations’ from the ‘My studies’ menu.
Unfortunately, for online courses, we are unable to accommodate participants from the waiting list on the day of the event.
Please note that being on the waiting list does not give you the right to attend the course if all admitted participants show up.
If you were admitted to a course but cannot attend it, please deregister from it within the specified period. You can find out how to deregister under registration and deregistration.
BOK/SQ course area and the Certificate of Digital Competences
Reliable attendance – plannability for all
The BOK course area is a required elective area with limited capacity. In order to enable as many students as possible to register for the courses they need to take, we rely on your binding registration. You have the option of deregistering yourself at any time in an uncomplicated manner and without providing a reason up to three days before a course is to start. This frees up a place for others in good time.
What happens in the case of an unexcused absence?
- First session: If you fail to show up without deregistering, you lose your place in the course and are blocked for the relevant competence area.
- Discontinuing a course you have already begun: Here as well, you are blocked if you discontinue the course or fail to do the coursework without providing an excuse.
A block is placed on you upon receipt of the relevant attendance list and is effective for the rest of your studies as of the next registration phase. If you have questions or requests regarding a block, please contact us at zfs-info@zfs.uni-freiburg.de
You complete coursework in all of our courses. We award you the ECTS credits for a course if you attended it regularly (see ‘compulsory attendance’) and successfully completed all required coursework within the specified time.
You do not need to additionally register the coursework on HISinOne. Your admission to the course during the registration procedure is sufficient to earn credit for the course.
If you are admitted to a course, you must complete all required coursework. We do not issue course certificates for mere participation.
Assessment of coursework
The coursework is assessed (‘with success’) but not graded. An exception is coursework for Law students, international students, students from EUCOR and Erasmus programmes, and Dentistry students, which is graded.
Note on examinations
Examinations are required in several courses. As a rule, lecturers are only required to offer a make-up examination if you cannot attend on the date of the examination due to compelling reasons that pertain to your studies.
Attempts at deception (e.g., plagiarism)
In the case of an attempt at deception, the coursework required to pass the course was not completed independently. The coursework therefore cannot be assessed and is consequently assessed as ‘not passed’. Further consequences of an attempt at deception or a breach of regulations, such as temporary or permanent exclusion from one or several of our courses, can be imposed as a result of corresponding provisions of the examination regulations for your degree programme.
All of our courses are evaluated by the Central Evaluation Service (ZES), usually after the end of the course. We would be delighted if you took part in the evaluation, because your feedback is very valuable to us and helps us to continually improve our course offerings.
The evaluation service sends you an email announcing that the questionnaire has been activated and specifying the deadline for completing it. You receive a personal access link to the questionnaire. Please keep this link to yourself and do not forward it to anyone else. The access link is also shown on your personal ILIAS start page.
