Registration and deregistration
Well-organized at the start of the semester
Would you like to register for or deregister from a ZfS course? Registration on HISinOne follows a clear procedure: Preferential registration with priorities for compulsory participants, allocation/lottery, and then open admission for voluntary participants. We explain you the steps so that you can plan specifically for the courses you wish to take and get your semester off to a successful start.
At a glance:
- Registration for all ZfS courses is performed on HISinOne.
- The prerequisite for admission to all courses is a University of Freiburg student ID number and a university account.
- The registration procedure distinguishes between students who need ECTS credits in the area of profession-oriented competences (BOK) or key qualifications for their degree programme (required electives or interdisciplinary key qualifications) and students who wish to participate in our courses on a voluntary basis or who would like to earn more credits in the BOK course area.

Registration for required electives or interdisciplinary key qualifications (SQ)
We ensure that there are enough places available for students who need to earn credits in the BOK or SQ course areas. Therefore, only students in bachelor’s and Law degree programmes who still need ECTS credits in the BOK course area or evidence of profession-oriented competences can be admitted during the priority registration phases.
For courses in our Internship Plus, Service Learning and Sustainability Certificate programmes, on the other hand, it is possible for all students to register during all registration phases. The courses in the Certificate of Digital Competences programme are simultaneously BOK courses, so registration for these courses works the same way it does for other BOK courses.
Our course programme (PDF) provides you a quick and comprehensive look at our course offerings. In it, you can select and register for course directly on HISinOne.

Regardless of which degree programme you are enrolled in at the University of Freiburg, you can register for courses in the Internship Plus, Service Learning, and Sustainability Certificate programmes during all registration phases, as long as places are available.
In addition, you can use free places in the BOK course area to strengthen your personal competence profile, train competences with future relevance, and complement your studies in a targeted manner. For BOK courses and courses in the Certificate of Digital Competences programme, registration for voluntary participants begins with the open admission phase (see ‘Current registration periods for voluntary participants’) and remains open until three days before the course begins.

How does the registration process work?
Registration process
There are several registration phases for ZfS courses. Different rules for admission apply depending on whether you need ECTS credits or an SQ certificate or whether you wish to register for additional courses on a voluntary basis. Information on the two variants is provided in the following.
Frequently asked questions

Registration with immediate admission
Hardship case consultation hour
Open admission
As long as free places are available, all students can register for courses in the modules Internship Plus, Service Learning, and the Sustainability Certificate during all registration phases.
Deregistration
If you have received a place in a course that you cannot accept, you are obligated to deregister from it.
In principle, the following applies:
You can deregister yourself from a course on HISinOne up to three days before it starts. Please take note of our conditions for deregistration (see below). Deregistration is not possible on the day of allocation or on deadline day (see Overview of registration phases).
After this, i.e., during the course, it is only possible to deregister in exceptional cases for compelling reasons pertaining to your studies. This involves sending an email to abmeldung@zfs.uni-freiburg.de.
To avoid being blocked, please take note of the item ‘block’ under Participation information and conditions.
How can I deregister on HISinOne?
To cancel your place, call up the course in question on HISinOne and select the option deregister/change registration. You must then confirm the deregistration in the newly loaded window. You can check your cancellation later under ‘my course and examination registrations’ on the ‘my studies’ menu. Deregistration is effective immediately.
