Application
- Applications are possible from mid-December. The application deadline is January 31 each year.
- The application deadline applies to applications for the winter (or fall) semester of the current year and to applications for the summer (or spring) semester of the following year. Before applying, please note the semester times applicable at the host university, which differ from the semester times in Freiburg.
- Please submit the following application documents completely and on time by e-mail to the Erasmus subject coordinator:

In the application form you can indicate up to three host universities with 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority. It is not mandatory to indicate more than one university, but it is advisable, as experience shows that for certain host universities more applications are received than places. The criteria for the ranking of the applications is the letter of motivation and the performance overview. - Curriculum vitae in table form
- Letter of motivation (approx. 1-2 DIN A4 pages)
In addition to the motives for a semester abroad in general and your associated expectations, you should also explain the reasons specific to the host university(ies) in question (e.g. planned study program). Therefore, please inform yourself about the courses offered by the host university before applying. - Transcript of records
- Proof of language proficiency (as proof of English language skills a simple copy of the high school diploma is sufficient)
- Application form
- You will receive feedback on your application from the beginning of March. In case of an acceptance, you will then have a period of approx. 2 weeks to confirm the acceptance of the place or to reject the place.
- Applications for remaining places are possible after the application deadline of January 31. The available places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. An overview of the remaining places can be found in the overview of partner universities and agreed places.
- After the confirmation of an exchange place by the Faculty of Biology, the application at the partner university takes place in a simplified procedure in a second step. First, you will be nominated by the ERASMUS coordinator at the foreign host university and will receive information about the further application steps and the application deadlines.
