About the CDF

The Central Data Facility (CDF) is affiliated with the vice rector of Research and Innovation, dedicated to supporting university members in managing and analysing their research data.

As a central service and consulting unit, the CDF focuses on data management, storage, and analysis. It integrates existing services and infrastructures in research data management and open science while also developing and connecting new measures and structures for the benefit of the entire university.

The CDF acts as the gateway to the Freiburg Center for Data Analysis, Modeling, and AI (FDMAI), University library (UB), Computer Center (RZ), and other university infrastructures and services promoting scientific collaboration across diverse research fields, including from the digital humanities (DH Lab/Hub).

Additionally, the CDF coordinates data management initiatives, including a data stewardship service to support institutions in projects, such as those funded by third parties.

By organizing training and continuing education in digital skills, the CDF also strengthens data literacy across the university.
