„Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network“-Funding for Sandra Destradi

Doctoral network led by Prof Dr Sandra Destradi investigates the international dimensions and effects of populism

Prof. Dr. Sandra Destradi, Professor of International Relations at the University of Freiburg, has been awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network entitled ‘The International Dimensions and Effects of Populism’ (IDEoPOP) by the European Commission. Under her leadership, the international doctoral network will work with numerous universities, research centres and associated partners for four years from October 2024 to investigate how the phenomenon of populism is linked to global politics. ‘While the global rise of populist political parties, governments and movements around the world, from Hungary to India, from Italy to Turkey, has led to a great deal of interest in the domestic effects of populism, its international effects have not been investigated much,’ says Destradi. ‘However, populism has an impact on the foreign policy of individual countries and on international politics, which is why we are delighted to be able to realise our research ideas with the support of the Marie Curie Doctoral Network.’ The funding totals more than 2.3 million euros.
