Teaching

The Chair of Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology leads the Bachelor’s program in Environmental Natural Sciences and coordinates and teaches the integrated minor in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation. Within the Master’s program in Environmental Sciences, we coordinate the profile line in Land Use and Nature Conservation.

We regularly update our courses to incorporate innovative topics and methods into our rapidly evolving research and teaching fields, and to prepare students for various aspects of academic, applied, or administrative careers in ecology and nature conservation.

Teaching in the Bachelor’s programme

Our teaching in the B.Sc. programme focuses on ecology and nature conservation (conservation biology and practical nature conservation) in various national and international terrestrial ecosystems and cultural landscapes. Topics of agroecology and applied ecology are also considered.

Our students work on practical questions and solutions to problems in nature conservation. We combine interactive lectures, practical courses, exercises and excursions in order to convey the various aspects of landscape ecology and nature conservation in the best possible way. The integration of stakeholders and external experts is a key element in our modules.

Teaching in the Master’s programme

The main aim of our M.Sc. courses is to provide students with advanced skills in plant and insect species identification and to promote a deeper understanding of wildlife and landscape ecology and conservation, with a focus on the ecology of sustainable cultural landscapes.

In line with the requirements for a career in science, our students are introduced to the use of modern media and various communication tools such as scientific publications, reports, management plans or other publications.

About us

Our group combines excellent research with dedicated teaching and an active dialogue with society.

Our research

We are investigating biodiversity and ecosystem functions in various national and international projects.

Our team

Behind our projects are people who combine scientific curiosity, interdisciplinary thinking and teamwork.

Bachelor’s and Master’s theses

The Chair of Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology offers students the opportunity to write Bachelor’s and Master’s theses on current and relevant research topics. Theses are mostly, but not exclusively, carried out in our ongoing research projects.
