PhD Representatives

A warm welcome to the group of fellow doctoral students of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Resources! Whether you just started your doctoral studies, are in the smack-middle of it, or finishing up: we are invested in your well-being and represent you within the university’s bodies.
One major advantage of our faculty is the fact that there are PhD representatives, which is us! We are volunteers who allocate their time into reaching the following two aims: Advocate for you and socialising with you.
Namely, on the one hand, doctoral students need to have their rights and interests advocated within the faculty and the university. Hence, we participate in the Faculty Council, the University Senate, and/or the General Academic Committee. Here, we get direct insights into policy decisions that affect us, doctoral students, and influence these. In other words, your PhD representatives are working hard to make your work-life as a doctoral candidate better!
Additionally, we realise that life outside of the doctoral studies is highly important, too. Hence, we organise events to stimulate networking with your peers and inform you about important events. It means that we occasionally try to lure you away from your work and hang out with your peers. Ways to reach this goal are fun activites (like board game nights), networking events, and being in contact with you in case you have questions or feedback about your life as a doctoral student.
We are a group of motivated peers who want to reach these two aims, advocating and socialising. We cannot do this alone, however. Would you be willing to assist us? Whether you like promoting social events, speaking out in our name in university bodies, or work behind the scenes: we need you! We would be grateful if you get in touch with us if you are interested in taking on a role! Hit us up via the following email address: phd.representatives@unr.uni-freiburg.de
To stay informed about our work and events, make sure you are subscribed to the promotion email list of the faculty and check our website regularly. To sign on the email list, send an empty mail to promotion-on@unr.uni-freiburg.de.
All the best to you and see you soon!

Your ENR PhD representatives
Confidential advisor
Doing your doctoral studies is generally quite demanding and experiencing issues is far more common than we all realise. These issues deserve appropriate attention and specialised support!
In close collaboration with the Graduate School of Environment, Society and Global Change (ESGC), the PhD representatives have established a confidential advisor position in our faculty. It provides a strictly confidential and safe space for doctoral students to discuss any issues related to their doctoral experience. These include concerns about their supervision, progress, or overall well-being.
We believe it should be very easy to contact the confidential advisor, and we are therefore delighted that Esther Muschelknautz has taken on this role. Further information about the confidential advisor’s responsibilities and how to get in touch can be found on the Graduate School’s website.
