STaPs visited Freiburg!

17th Linguistics Conference for Doctoral Students (STaPs) — Online, April 23–24, 2021
On April 23 and 24, 2021, doctoral candidates at the Department of Linguistics hosted the 17th Linguistics Conference for Doctoral Students (STaPs) as an online event.
You can find the conference programme here and the book of abstracts here.
STaPs is a conference by doctoral students for doctoral students. Unlike most academic conferences, the focus of STaPs is not primarily on finished research or interim dissertation results, but rather on the methodological challenges encountered before and during the research process. The aim is to present research problems and possible methodological approaches, making STaPs especially suitable for early-stage doctoral candidates.
The conference features empirically oriented projects from all areas of linguistics, including theoretical and descriptive linguistics as well as psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics, and computational linguistics — both synchronically and diachronically.
At the 17th STaPs, Junior Professor Dr. Adriana Hanulíková (University of Freiburg) gave a keynote titled “Language diversity and great expectations: Insights from psycho- and neurolinguistics.” Dr. Lauren Gawne (La Trobe University) delivered a keynote on “Data and Audiences: A big picture approach to your research.”
For the first time, the 17th STaPs included a publishing panel on dissertation publication, with representatives from Brill, Language Science Press, Goethe University Frankfurt, and the University Library Freiburg.
Thank you to all presenters and participants — you made the 17th STaPs an unforgettable experience!
