Solvent-Independent Unifying Reducity

The EabsH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{abs}^{H_{2}O}} scale can be treated as the thermodynamically well founded continuation of the EH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{H_{2}O}} scale. All values on the EabsH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{abs}^{H_{2}O}} scale (based on the Eabs\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{abs}} scale) can be compared with each other in that the zero point of this scale is identical to the zero point of the EH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{H_{2}O}} scale. Find more explanations under “Remarks”.

Here you can find several redox systems, which of EabsH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{abs}^{H_{2}O}} values we determined with our ILSB method for a couple of solvents. Click here to browse through a database containing several 𝑬𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐇𝟐𝐎\mathit{\boldsymbol{E}}_{\mathrm{\mathbf{abs}}}^{\mathrm{\mathbf{H_{2}O}}} values of other redox systems that we have linked to them. There, you also can upload redox potential values that we can connect to the unified scale.

Below you can find EabsE_\mathrm{abs} and EabsH2OE_\mathrm{{abs}}^\mathrm{H_{2}O} values at standard conditions (i.e. aS(H+,S)=1a_\mathrm{S}\left(\mathrm{H}^{+},\mathrm{S}\right)=1) for a variety of solvents. They are based on Gibbs transfer energies of the proton ΔtrG∘(H+,H2O→S)\Delta_{\mathrm{tr}}G{^\circ}\left(\mathrm{H}^{+},\mathrm{H_{2}O\rightarrow S}\right), which we determined using our electrochemical ILSB method. Details are published here. The Gibbs hydration energy of the proton ΔsolvG∘(H+,H2O)\Delta_{\mathrm{solv}}G{^\circ}\left(\mathrm{H}^{+},\mathrm{H_2O}\right) is taken from the literature.[1] All valus of ΔtrG∘(H+,H2O→S)\Delta_{\mathrm{tr}}G{^\circ}\left(\mathrm{H}^{+},\mathrm{H_{2}O\rightarrow S}\right) and ΔsolvG∘(H+,S)\Delta_{\mathrm{solv}}G{^\circ}\left(\mathrm{H}^{+},\mathrm{S}\right) are given in kJ mol−1, Eabs\mathit{E}_\mathrm{abs} and EH2O\mathrm{\mathit{E}_{H_{2}O}} values are given in V. Note, that the Eabs°\mathit{E}_\mathrm{abs}° of the SHEH2O\mathrm{SHE_{H_{2}O}} deviates from the IUPAC value (4.44 V); the reason is that the latter one is based on α\alpha instead of μ\mu.
