ACT in Video
As part of ACT in Video, we produce video formats designed to improve science communication. Through these various formats, we explore ways to reduce asymmetries in knowledge production. Our protagonists present their research topics and theses in a brief, concise manner, post Zoom recordings of lectures online, debate with one another on camera, and offer insights into current research and other activities. With English, German, and French subtitles, the videos easily transcend geographical and linguistic boundaries.
Video Series: Reciprocal Knowledge Transfer
A key feature of colonialism is that it is reflected in our language. This is particularly true of terms relating to Africa. Many of these terms are problematic because they perpetuate discourses that are discriminatory or shaped by structural racism. The goal of the ACT project on reciprocal knowledge transfer is to discuss and overcome colonial continuities in language. To this end, students identify terms and expressions they have encountered in their studies and suspect to be racist. In the next step, African experts were asked to share their expertise and explain whether, why, and in what ways they would actually consider the term racist or not.
