About
Sitta von Reden has been a Professor of Ancient History with a specialisation in Greek History since 2010. She studied History, Latin, and Economics at the Universities of Freiburg, Berlin, and Cambridge. After earning her doctorate at Cambridge, she became a Junior Research Fellow at Oxford University and later served as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Bristol University in England. After returning to Germany in 2004, she completed her habilitation at the University of Augsburg. Additionally, she taught at the University of Münster and LMU Munich before accepting a professorship at the Albert-Ludwigs-University.
Research
Sitta von Reden teaches and conducts research on archaic, classical, and Hellenistic history, with a particular focus on Egypt, as well as ancient economic and global history. From 2017 to 2023, she led the project ‘Beyond the Silk Road: Economic Development, Frontier Zones and Inter-Imperiality in the Afro-Eurasian World Region, 300 BCE to 300 CE,’ for which she received an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council. Since 2024, she has served as the spokesperson for the Research Training Group ‘Empires: Dynamic Change, Temporality and Postimperial Orders,’ funded by the German Research Foundation.

Teaching
Sitta von Reden teaches a wide range of courses in Greek and Hellenistic history mostly with a global perspective. Regular lecture courses include Greek History from the Mycenaean to the Hellenistic Period, Greek Economic History, Greek Religion, and the Ancient Silk Road.
