Major Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

Evolution and ecology are inextricably linked – together they determine the biological diversity on our planet, which is essential for human life. Nevertheless, many species and their interactions in ecosystems remain unexplored. Global environmental changes such as climate change, habitat destruction and invasive species threaten biodiversity and influence natural cycles. In the research-oriented Master’s Major ‘Ecology and Evolutionary Biology’, you will explore the complex interactions between genetic variation, evolutionary mechanisms and ecological processes. From field studies in temperate latitudes and the tropics to the analysis of genetic control of behaviour, you will develop practical skills for laboratory and field research and sharpen your scientific thinking through interdisciplinary problems and questions relating to ecology, biodiversity and evolution.
