Flexible Cities, Rigid Minds?

Integrating Cognitive, Decision, and Criminological Sciences to Study Feature Prevalence in Urban Safety Perception Across the Adult Lifespan

How safe does a place feel—and why? This project examines how features of urban environments, such as lighting or decay, shape perceived safety and how these judgments vary across age groups. Using naturalistic images and behavioral experiments, we study how people adapt their safety judgments as environments change, with the goal of informing safer and more inclusive urban design.
