Bachelor’s degree programme in “Empirical Cultural Studies”
This bachelor’s degree programme offers you the opportunity to explore the diversity of human cultures and societies. In lectures and seminars, you will explore exciting topics such as cultural identity, social dynamics and transformations, diversity and cultural conflicts. Using an interdisciplinary approach, you wil be prepared for a career in cultural management, media, education or research.

Master’s programme in “Ethnography and Cultural Analysis”
Master’s programme in “Ethnography and Cultural Analysis”: Would you like to refine your knowledge of cultural studies methods and theory? And after completing your bachelor’s degree, would you like to conduct more empirical research and present your results to the public? Then our master’s programme is the right choice for you! The Freiburg master’s programme in Ethnography and Cultural Analysis not only offers a two-semester research-oriented study project but also a broad spectrum of opportunities for deepening your understanding of theory and testing your cultural studies knowledge in practice.
Master’s programme in “Interdisciplinary Anthropology”
Master’s programme in “Interdisciplinary Anthropology”: Since the 2012/13 winter semester, the University of Freiburg has been offering a master’s programme in Interdisciplinary Anthropology. The programme focuses on social and cultural practices, phenomena, artefacts and institutions in complex societies. Topics include relationships between people and their environments, cognitive and biological dimensions of human beings, and how our understanding of humanity has kept changing over time. Anthropology is not understood here as a singular entity. Rather, students learn about a variety of anthropological ways of thinking in the context of different disciplines. The master’s programme consists of elements from different disciplines, of which “Empirical Cultural Studies” is one sub-area.

Application
If an Erasmus+ partnership already exists between your university and the University of Freiburg, you are able to apply for an exchange semester. Please consult with your local Erasmus coordinator regarding selection and nomination procedures. Nominated students may apply for admission. Information and downloads concerning application and admission to the University of Freiburg can be found here. Further information can be found on the website of the Service Center Studium (Student Mobility for Studies (SMS) – Incoming — International Office (uni-freiburg.de)). Once your nomination is confirmed, the Erasmus office will reach out to provide further details regarding your stay. Before starting your semester at the University of Freiburg, you have to prepare a list of courses (Learning Agreement) you want to attend with the help of your departmental coordinator at your home university. Please note that in some cases the course catalog for the following semester is not yet online when the first Digital Learning Agreement is created. As a result, there may be changes to the course offerings. The courses actually attended have to be adjusted in the Learning Agreement at a later date.

To prepare your Learning Agreement you may use an overview of our current course catalog. Please note that it is possible that the catalog for the upcoming Semester has not been confirmed yet. In that case please use the past semester’s catalog for orientation.
