“Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network” funding for Giuseppe Sansone

Freiburg, 06/09/2024

The QU-ATTO doctoral network ley by Prof Dr Giuseppe Sansone is investigating quantum information science processes such as entanglement and coherence with the temporal resolution offered by attosecond technology.

Prof Dr Giuseppe Sansone, Head of Attosecond- and Strong Field Physics at the Institute of Physics at the University of Freiburg, coordinates the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network ‘The Quantum information science and Ultrafast nonlinear coherent control at the ATTO-second timescale (QU-ATTO)’, which was newly established as part of the Horizon Europe programme. Numerous universities, research institutions and industrial partners are involved in QU-ATTO. The network began its work on 1 September 2024 and can now fill 15 doctoral positions. The funding comprises funds totalling 3.9 million euros.

“We are very excited about the launch of this new training network and have started to advertise the PhD positions available at the different partner institutions,” commented Sansone. “Being part of such a network is an important added value for a young researcher. The supervisors of the network are leading scientists in their respective fields, with great experience in supervising and motivating young researchers”.

The goal of the network is to advance research in the field of attosecond and quantum information science through the work of the doctoral students. The aim is to investigate processes such as entanglement and coherence with the temporal resolution offered by attosecond technology.

About Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are part of the European Union’s ‘Horizon Europe’ research infrastructures and its work training programme for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. Over the entire duration of Horizon Europe (2021-2027), the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions have a budget of 6.6 billion euros.

Within this context, the Doctoral Networks (DN) will fund transnational doctoral programmes from both academic and non-academic sectors. The aim is to improve the career prospects of researchers and strengthen the transfer of knowledge between the participating institutions.
