Semih starts his chemistry degree in the winter semester

“Freiburg is a beautiful city and the people are cosmopolitan,” comments Semih on his decision to study at the University of Freiburg. The 21-year-old was one of around 2,800 visitors who came to SC Freiburg’s Europa-Park Stadium last Friday for the First Semester Day for the 2024/2025 Winter Semester. Semih is starting his degree in Chemistry this winter semester and is pleased about the field’s good reputation at the University of Freiburg.

Prof. Dr Michael Schwarze, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Freiburg, warmly welcomed the new students. “We are pleased that you are here today and will be studying at the University of Freiburg over the next few years!” He also advised them to contact the various advice and support centres at the University if needed. “Starting a degree programme might be overwhelming for you. It’s normal. Countless generations before you have felt the same way. Over 24,000 students are enrolled at our university and it will take time to settle into this environment. But don’t worry, we won’t leave you to your own devices.”

Beginning university and student life

After Hanno Franke, Head of Marketing and Sustainability at SC Freiburg, welcomed the first semester students to the stadium, representatives of the Student Parliament presented their work to the stands, followed by the dance performance “EVERYONE – Human Rights” by the Matrix show team from the Department of Sport and Sports Science.

After the official welcome, visitors were able to find out about various University and external offers at the Market of Opportunities, for example at the International Office booth, the Uni Big Band, ArbeiterKind.de or the Freiburg fire brigade.
