Freiburg, 22/10/2024
The interdisciplinary lecture series on sustainability, offered within the context of the optional Sustainability Certificate programme, will again be held in the 2024/25 winter semester. The lectures are geared towards the interested public and all matriculated students.
Among other topics, the lecture programme covers the sustainable development of food systems, building and living, energy supply, the management of forests, and the question of new materials. A total of 17 experts from research and practice will give tandem lectures discussing challenges and approaches to sustainable development. The speakers come from organizations like the university dining services of Studierendenwerk Freiburg, the umbrella cooperative for living projects Wohnen für Alle eG Freiburg, and the Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg. The scientific perspective is represented by experts from various faculties, the Cluster of Excellence livMatS, and the Young Academy for Sustainability Research at FRIAS.
Vice Rector for Internationalization and Sustainability Prof. Dr. Melanie Arndt explains the principle of the tandem lectures: ‘Sustainable development cannot be managed by a single discipline. Only when researchers from different disciplines get together with actors from practice does a multifaceted picture of the complex challenges emerge and do possible approaches to achieving sustainable development become conceivable and feasible.’
After two introductory lectures of around 30 minutes each, speakers and participants enter into a dialogue. ‘In addition to a critical discussion of the content, we want to provide scope in the lecture series for the participants to become aware of their own assumptions, attitudes, values, and emotions on the topic and to contribute them to the dialogue’, explains Christoph Pfisterer, project coordinator and moderator of the lecture series.
The lectures will be held from 30 October 2024 to 29 January 2025 in KG I, HS 1221, each Wednesday from 4:15 to 6 p.m.
Visiting students are welcome to attend without prior registration.
Students who wish to earn 2 ECTS credits for the foundations area of the Sustainability Certificate are asked to please register on HisInOne.
