The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a day of remembrance and action to end violence against women, is held each year on 25 November to raise public awareness of the global extent and forms of violence against women and to take a stand against discrimination and all forms of violence against women. The United Nations organization UN Women kicks off its global ‘Orange the World’ campaign on this day.
Freiburg too is taking part in this campaign by illuminating numerous buildings in orange until 10 December 2024, ‘International Human Rights Day’. The colour orange stands for the elimination of gender-based violence. The University of Freiburg will also participate in the campaign and illuminate Collegiate Building I (KG I) as well as the work of art in front of Building 102 at the Faculty of Technology in orange for sixteen evenings.
‘The University of Freiburg takes a clear stand against all forms of gender-based discrimination and violence and is firmly committed to gender equality, tolerance, and diversity’, explains Dr. Regina Herzog, faculty equal opportunity representative of the University of Freiburg. ‘We are therefore again supporting the global ‘Orange the World’ campaign and would like to send out a clear signal against violence against women and girls by illuminating Collegiate Building I.
