The nomination should also include a description of how the award is to be used.
Formalities
- The reason for the nomination must be set out in detail. In particular, this description should include the nominee’s didactic conception, its significance, and its impact on studies, as well as its long-term integration into teaching at the University. Remarks on how the aspect of competence-oriented assessment is taken into account are desirable.
- The procedure that led to the nomination must be explained, including an account of the decision-making process (competition, criteria, etc.). In terms of sustainability, the (overall) result of a student evaluation must also be included. The nomination of particularly motivating individuals should be supported by a concise, coherent teaching portfolio.
- Each individual nomination must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae set out in tabular form in accordance with the form provided.
- Each nomination must include a brief description of the project/concept of no longer than one page in length (DIN A4).
- For publicity purposes, we ask that you formulate a brief press text (please use the form provided).
- With regard to how the State Teaching Award is to be used, we ask that you inform us whether the nominee will be changing institutions in the near future.
- Nominations must be submitted in electronic form by email to lehrpreise@zv.uni-freiburg.de. Please combine all nomination documents into a single PDF file.
- The nomination for the University Teaching Award should not exceed a length of 10 DIN A4 pages (font: Arial 12 pt; line spacing: 18 pt). The forms do not count towards this maximum amount of pages. Evaluation results, other similar documents, and the forms can be included as enclosures. The nomination must explain the main aspects that speak in favour of giving the award to the nominee from the University’s point of view. In addition, it should identify clearly what award criterion the nomination refers to (particularly whether it is a concept or an individual being nominated).
- The enclosures and forms do not have to be considered in the amount of pages specified above. Additionally, you may provide a description of the project on the internet (e.g., films, images, scripts, etc.). Please specify the corresponding addresses.
- You may encounter serious problems when opening, filling in, and saving files with Adobe Reader – if this is the case, please change the size of the document on the screen and take care to save the file at regular intervals. In addition, we would like to recommend that you use an alternative PDF reader (PDF24, Foxit, Preview). If the problems continue, please contact Karin Maurer-Lenius (karin.maurer-lenius@zv.uni-freiburg.de, T 0761 / 203-9088).

Outstanding Student Involvement
Following the example of the State of Baden-Württemberg, the University of Freiburg has awarded a prize to individual students or groups of students for exemplary involvement since 2012. The prize is worth €1,000. The prize can be shared by several prize-winners.
What can be nominated?
- The prize is intended for exemplary student involvement that serves as a model to be emulated by others and directly benefits other students and/or society. It can be awarded for both the special scope of an individual project and exemplary, continuous engagement;
- Collaboration in working groups (e.g., working groups within student governments) that can be separated from the regular committee work as a project in concrete terms can be nominated for the special student prize. Student involvement in the form of committee work or regular attendance at meetings is not on its own sufficient grounds for nomination.
Who can nominate?
- individuals (a student, also within the context of a doctoral degree programme)
- a student group
Usage guidelines
- The prize is worth €1,000 and can be shared.
- It is possible to nominate either an individual (a student, also within the context of a doctoral degree programme) or a student group.
- If a group of students is nominated, the statement on the reason for the nomination must describe in detail which of the students initiated the project and in what way the other nominated students contributed to the project.
- The prize money may be used for purposes of promoting student interests at the awardee’s university at the discretion of the awardee. The prize money cannot be used for private purposes.
- The nomination should also include a description of how the prize money is to be used.

State Teaching Award
The State Teaching Award has not only led to a fundamental debate on the topic of teaching and the criteria of good teaching but has also stimulated a competition of ideas and implementations of good teaching, thus contributing to an increase in the quality of teaching as a whole. The State Teaching Award is scheduled to be awarded again in 2025. Details on the call for nominations will be announced at the end of 2024.
2019
The Freiburg researchers Julia Gurol and Ingo Henneberg from the Department of Political Science have received the 2019 State Teaching Award together with colleagues from the University of Tübingen for their cross-locational seminar with video conference technology.
